IL and the Irish Lacrosse Foundation – Working Together for our Shared “Goals”!

As outlined in our Mission Statement:

“Ireland Lacrosse shall, first and foremost, work to develop the sport of lacrosse throughout the island of Ireland for both men and women and at all levels from youth to adult. Arising out of this development, Ireland Lacrosse shall also oversee, manage and support the Irish national teams – for men and women and at under-age and senior levels.”

In pursuit of this mission, Ireland Lacrosse works closely with the Irish Lacrosse Foundation (http://www.irishlacrossefoundation.org), an organisation based in the USA which helps to raise awareness of our programmes, generate support for our national teams, and provide expert advice and assistance to the members of Ireland Lacrosse.

Ireland Lacrosse recently worked with the Irish Lacrosse Foundation and with Irish national women’s team alumnus and former Women’s Director Julie Clarke to identify outstanding equipment needs.  With a generous donation from the ILF and a personal donation from Julie, combined with some investment of its own, Ireland Lacrosse purchased four new “rage cage” goals to be used for the Irish Lacrosse League (ILL) – one set for the men and one set for the women – as well as a set of portable creases, kindly delivered by Irish men’s national team Head Coach and ILF Vice-President Tom Prior when he was in-country for the men’s national team selection camp in October.  These purchases provide badly needed equipment – new, portable goals will make it easier to run clinics throughout Ireland and will mean the end of having to borrow goals from individual clubs, and the portable creases mean we can say farewell to the ‘bags of flour’ approach to lining our fields for the Irish Lacrosse League (ILL) Gamedays!  Additional investment was also made to purchase other much-needed new equipment, including women’s sticks, men’s sticks, arm pads and helmets.

The new goals were provided by Ray Harry, long-time friend of Ireland Lacrosse and a stalwart of Wales Lacrosse, the portable creases were provided by Bow-Net, and the additional equipment was provided by Captain-Lax.
