Opening Weekend of the 2014 Irish Lacrosse League

The Opening Day of the 2014 Irish Lacrosse League (ILL) season takes place on Saturday, 25th January 2014.  The weekend’s events will include a Men’s Referee Training Seminar with current Ireland International Referee Dick Pepper, commencing on Friday evening at the Tara Towers Hotel, ILL Gameday #1 on Saturday at St. Patrick’s College in Drumcondra, and a Training Session and Clinic with Ireland Men’s National Team Head Coach Tom Prior on Saturday afternoon.  The detailed schedule for the weekend’s events is as follows:

Friday (24th January)

 Men’s Referee Training Seminar, 6.30-10.30pm at the Tara Towers Hotel (Merrion Road, Dublin 4) with Ireland International Referee Dick Pepper.  This session will cover the key tenets of refereeing men’s lacrosse.  Participants are strongly advised to familiarise themselves with the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Men’s Rulebook, which is available at http://filacrosse.com/wp-content/themes/sportedge/downloads/FIL_Mens_RuleBook_2014_A5_v1-0.pdf, in advance of the seminar.  This classroom session will then be followed up with on-field training and support during the two ILL games taking place on the Saturday.  Following the Gameday events, the referee examination will be administered.  Individuals who pass the examination will be qualified to referee games in the ILL, as well as in other leagues and tournaments in Ireland and abroad.  Obtaining the referee qualification is also a requirement to become an Ireland Lacrosse level 2 qualified coach.  Participation in the Referee Training session costs €20 and individuals can register and pay at the Tara Towers Hotel on the Friday evening.

Saturday (25th January)

ILL Gameday #1, 9am at St. Patrick’s College (Drumcondra Road Upper, Dublin 9).  Buses from O’Connell Street that go to St. Patrick’s College include:  1, 11, 13, 16, 41, 44 and 33.

9:30am warmup (UCD and Galway)
10:00am ILL – UCD vs Galway
12:00pm Warmup (Avengers and Prawns)
12:30pm ILL – Avengers vs Prawns

Women’s Schedule
9:00am Setup Field (Dublin Avengers)
10:00am (Women’s Game 1)
11:00am (Women’s Game 2)
12:00pm (Women’s Game 3)
1:00pm (Women’s Game 4)
2:00pm (Women’s Game 5)
3:00pm (Women’s Game 6)

Training Session and Clinic with Ireland Men’s National Team Head Coach Tom Prior, 3pm at St. Patrick’s College following the ILL games.  Tom Prior is the Head Coach of the Irish National Team due to compete in the 2014 World Championships in Denver Colorado this summer.  Coach Prior will be running a training session which will focus on Offense, Extra-Man Offense, Riding and Clearing.  This session is required for all senior men’s national team players, and all other men players are also strongly encouraged to participate in order to learn more about the details of the Irish national team strategy and tactics.
