Women’s National Team Defeats Germany, Takes 5th in European Lacrosse Championships

The Irish Women’s National team defeated Germany 8-4, to take 5th place in the 2015 European Lacrosse championship. This is Ireland’s best finish in the tournament, having finished 8th in the 2012 Euros and 10th in the 2013 World Cup.

The green and white had five different players record points. Robyn Morris had 2 goals, 2 assists. Caroline Peters had 2 goals, 1 assist. Rachel Ward and Schyler Neale both had 2 goals. Claire Halliday had 1 goal, 1 assist. Nonie Andersen had 1 goal. Peters and Ward were in the Top 25 for total points in the tournament (6th and 23rd overall), while Morris was 3rd overall in assists.

Ireland dictated the pace of play and controlled possession throughout the game. he Green Machine won 10 of 12 draw controls. Six different Irish players tallied draw controls. Schyler Neale had three herself, and was highly effective in placing the draw to the girls in green and white.

Defensively, the Green Machine dictated the pace of play. The Irish disrupted German possession, causing 10 turnovers throughout the field. Goalie Ashley DeFlumere had 11 saves.

Coach Sarah Walsh said, “I couldn’t be more proud of this team. They came together nicely as a group, and got better every time we stepped on the field. They were such a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to the future of this program!”
