Is the team that plays in the U20 European Championship in Czech in 2019 the same team that will be competing in the World Championships in Limerick in 2020?

There are slightly different eligibility criteria for the two different teams (U20s in 2019 and U19s in 2020) – obviously the age range will be different, and for the Euro U20s in 2019 there is an added provision that no active NCAA D1/2/3 player is eligible (club or MCLA is acceptable) – this won’t be the case in 2019. The coaching staff for the Irish team is expected to be the same for both teams.

Hello, I am a lacrosse player of Irish decent living in North America and I am very interested in playing for team Ireland. Ironically, I am actually going to be in Ireland during the tryout in New York. I have attached my highlights from this season. Please contact me back and hopefully we can work something out. Thank you.

Hi,
My son Patrick is really interested in playing for Ireland in the U20s next year and the U19s in 2020. He is an Irish passport holder already ( I am from Tyrone) so that’s, not a problem. He currently plays for Long Island Express, Long Island Sting and Deerfield Academy as a defenseman. You can check out his highlight reel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJa3lGZ09kM . He will try to make it to the tryouts on Sunday but he is already committed to play at a tournament at Sachem High School LI on Saturday and Sunday this week end.

Hi. My sons are Irish citizens living in U.S. and interested in trying out for selection but are not able to be at the Bayville tryout. Is there another way for them to tryout?

What is the reason that players cannot have any NCAA experience? I will have one year of experience next summer but would still love to play.

Yes. Players must pay to participate in major tournaments. This is the case throughout international lacrosse.

Hi Bill – We have not yet set the dates for the 2020 Men’s U19 Team Tryouts. We expect to know (and will publicise) the tryout dates by the end of 2018. We have Liam’s name and email address on our list of eligible players and will be sending an email out once the information is available!

Will the team be using non passport holders for the 15% allowed by fila rules. We are of Irish descent but to far removed to be eligible to obtain Irish passport.
Michael Kennedy
08/11/2018
Hi Steven – the FIL rules regarding non-passport-holders restrict those 15% roster spots to individuals who, while not having a passport, must have a parent or grandparent born in the country, marriage with residence, or residence on its own. See section 4 at https://filacrosse.com/wp-content/downloads/competitions_eligibility_men.pdf
We do have an Éire team which competes in a number of events and tournaments and this team is precisely designed to facilitate individuals with Irish heritage (but who do not qualify for the national team) to get involved with our programme. You can email info@irelandlacrosse.ie for further information.

Are you currently looking for Assistant Coaches? And if not, what is the process/eligibility criteria for future reference. I am a collegiate coach in the states (with Irish Ancestry) hoping to get involved in the future.

Hello Michael – can you add me to any email list you have on tryouts for the u-19 irish team competing in limerick in 2020? If history is any guide i am guessing tryouts will be in summer or fall of 2019. Does that seem correct? My son, an Irish passport holder in Maryland, wants to try out.
