The Éire (men’s & women’s field) team has been established as part of the Irish national lacrosse team development programme. The Éire team competes in various events and tournaments, some of which are part of the selection process for the Irish national teams. The Éire team also regularly competes in ‘Festival’ tournaments that take place alongside major World Championship tournaments. Eligibility for the Éire team is more flexible than for the Irish national team, and it enables players who do not make the Irish national team, or who may not be eligible for the Irish national team (see National Team Vision (Player Eligibility & Selection Policy for more information), to get connected with Ireland Lacrosse.
The Eire Men’s National Development Team has competed in this event since 2015, winning the ‘Plate’ championship in 2016. For the 2019 event, it is anticipated that there will be 12 teams participating. This event is also considered to be a ‘Selection Event’ for our 2020 teams – for further details regarding this, see MEN’S 2019 SELECTION EVENTS ANNOUNCED!
The Eire Men’s National Development Team will be competing in the Heritage Cup, 24-26 May 2019 in Philadelphia, PA, USA. Now in its third year, the Heritage Cup offers international programmes the opportunity to compete against other programmes. Rosters are comprised of national team players, development team players and heritage players with direct lineage to their respective teams.
Last year’s tournament included the following teams:
Eire Men posted a third place finish in last year’s tournament, defeating Jamaica in the third place game.
The Heritage Cup runs in conjunction with the NCAA Lacrosse National Championships. To that end, Heritage Cup games will be scheduled to allow participants to attend the majority of the NCAA National Championships.
