Prawns Wins ILL and Ard’s Cup Double

UCD Lacrosse hosted the final ILL gameday on a fine April’s afternoon at Belfield. Last season saw the hosts, UCD, take their second consecutive ILL title. However this season, the students were
playing catch up on NUI Galway and Dublin Bay Prawns LC coming into the final round of games. Galway needed two wins from two, and for the Prawns to lose both games, if the men from the
West were to take their first league title. Dublin Lacrosse, who back at the September gameday, looked to be the most impressive outfit, were now battling to survive the wooden spoon after a
string of ILL losses.
The day started with a hard-fought battle between Dublin LC and UCD, with UCD coming out on top. However, the Prawns comfortably charged their way to their first league crown with
impressive wins over Galway and Dublin, whilst UCD pipped Galway into second place with two home wins.
UCD and reigning Ards Cup champions, Prawns, fought it out for the second Newtownards Cup final. UCD were on course for an upset, leading 3-1 at any early stage but Prawns pulled it back
to level matters. It then came down to a Mark Colgan goal to bring the Prawns their second Ards Cup and a unique ILL Double.
