Avengers and Prawns Winners on Day Two

Avengers vs UCD has given us some very competitive matches this year including an exciting Newtownard’s Cup Final. So you had to figure this first meeting in the 2014 ILL season was going to be no exception.

UCD jumped out to an early 4-1 lead with the Avengers defense out of sorts and an excellent contribution at the face-off X  from Tadhg Bolger. But, the Avengers adjusted and clawed back to take a slim 7-4 lead at the half time break.

The Avengers dominated the score-sheet in the second half and some solid goal keeping by Danny Jones and with the Dublin offense led by Calvin Craig and James Hearn firing on all cylinders. The Dublin Avengers marched to a solid 12-7 win over their south Dublin rivals. Craig led all scorers with 6 goals and one helper while UCD’s Ciaran Boylan had 4 goals in the loss.

NUIG vs Prawns

Both teams were looking to rebound from week one defeats and try to kick-start their season.

The Prawns jumped out to an early lead through Mark Colgan and Martin Scanlon. But, an impressive display in the Galway goal by Tim Segal keep the Galway team in touch.

Eventually the experience of the Prawns was too much for NUIG running up a 6-0 scoreline before Ryan Doran would score one back for Galway. Despite the fight and efforts of the west coast outfit, the Prawns finished on top winning 6-1 earning their first win of the season. Kevin Quinn was solid in goal keeping Galway scoreless through three quarters only allowing the one goal in the fourth. Mark Colgan led all scorers with 3 goals and 1 assist.
