UCD Men Head Off to the European Club Championships

The Annual Irish Lacrosse League kicked of last year (2010-2011) with the 2010 champions, UCD Lacrosse; gaining an impressive opening win against the strong home team of NUI Galway.

UCD Captain Aidan Marshall led the boys on a powerful run, leaving them unbeaten as they entered the final weekend of the season.

With UCD hosting the closing games of the tournament, and the men’s team on the brink of their second successive League victory, the pressure was on. An opening loss to Dublin left the title in the balance, with the Dublin Bay Prawns being in close contention. Yet the dying moments of the season saw a surprise draw between the Prawns and NUI Galway, allowing UCD to end the year as the champions of Ireland Lacrosse.

The culmination of two seasons of intense competition by the UCD team means that they are eligible to contend in the Men’s European Championships in Hamburg on the 23rd and 24th of October 2011. A strong and experienced squad of current UCD students and alumni puts the team in a favourable position entering this International tournament, with well seasoned competition offering great match experience and some excellent Lacrosse.

Best of luck boys!
