Ireland Lacrosse seeking Head Coach/Assistant Coach for Men’s Under-19 National Team
Ireland Lacrosse, the national governing body for the sport of lacrosse in Ireland, is seeking a Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the Men’s Under-19 National Team which is due participate in the 2016 FIL World Men’s Under-19 Championships. This will be the first time ever that an Irish national team has competed at Under-19 level.
Event Details
The 2016 FIL World Men’s Under-19 Championships will be taking place from 7-16 July 2016 in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. The tryouts for this team will take place from 26-28 June 2015 at the University of Limerick in Ireland – information regarding the tryouts, including also the rules on player eligibility, is available here. On the weekend following the tryouts, from 2-4 July 2015, there will be a Men’s Under-19 tournament called the Celtic Open, and player-candidates trying-out for the Irish U19 team are being encouraged to also participate in this tournament. In the lead-up to the 2016 World Championships tournament itself, it is anticipated that there will be a 4-day training camp in Canada (3-6 July 2016).
Criteria for Head Coach
Required Qualifications:
- Three years coaching experience at secondary school (high school), club, collegiate, professional or international level;
- Member of either Ireland Lacrosse (see Membership Form) or the Irish Lacrosse Foundation;
- Ireland Lacrosse Level Two Coaching Qualification or equivalent;
- Availability to assess player-candidates at Team Selection Camp (26-28 June 2015 at the University of Limerick in Ireland) and at the 2015 Celtic Open (2-4 July also at the University of Limerick in Ireland);
- Availability to coach at designated pre-tournament training camps and the 2016 World U19 tournament itself (3-16 July in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada).
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of coaching experience, preferably at collegiate, professional or international level;
- Previous involvement in Ireland Lacrosse National Team programme (assistant coach, selection camp assessor, etc.);
- Involvement in Ireland Lacrosse development (ILL, NILL, coaching, clinics, etc.);
- Playing experience at secondary school (high school), club, collegiate, professional or international level;
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Criteria for Assistant Coach
Required Qualifications:
- One year coaching experience at secondary school (high school), club, collegiate, professional or international level;
- Member of either Ireland Lacrosse (see Membership Form) or the Irish Lacrosse Foundation;
- Availability to coach at designated pre-tournament training camps and at the 2016 World U19 tournament itself (3-16 July in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada).
- Recommendation of National Team Director and Head Coach for respective team.
