The Irish Men’s Indoor National Team is happy to announce that the Team Jesse Foundation will be this year’s ‘Player of the Game’ sponsor. The Team Jesse Foundation is an American based non-profit organization that supports families of fallen soldiers by raising money through awareness and events.
The Team Jesse Foundation was founded on a promise made by one brother to another, who forged an extraordinary bond and enduring friendship while serving together in the United States Army. It was started by Kevin Mincio and Matt Corry to honor Kevin’s fallen friend and comrade, SSG Jesse L. Williams. Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, Kevin left the comfort of a Wall Street job to join the Army and served a tour of duty in Iraq with Jesse, where they became close friends. Before Jesse left for his second tour of duty, he asked Kevin to make the ultimate promise to “look after and care for” his new born daughter, Amaya, in the event he didn’t make it back.
Team Jesse grew out of what was initially going to be a summer lacrosse tournament team founded by Kevin and Matt. Made up of former teammates and other friends, the team was entered into the 2007 LAX Vegas Lacrosse Tournament. Planning was underway when Kevin was informed of Jesse’s death. Kevin and Matt immediately knew that honouring Jesse and raising money for Amaya would be the new mission for the lacrosse team, and Team Jesse started to take shape. With the help and support of family, friends and other connections throughout the lacrosse community, they got to work raising money for Amaya and sharing the story of Jesse, a courageous soldier who gave all for his country.
Inspired to do more, Kevin and Matt founded the Team Jesse Foundation to serve military families more broadly. The Foundation has provided over $250,000 in direct assistance to 100+ families by funding scholarships, grants, bereavement camps, children’s counseling and survivor support experiences.
Team Jesse Founder and former Irish international Matt Corry had this to say about the sponsorship opportunity, “The lacrosse community has always been a source of tremendous support for Team Jesse and Kevin Owens in particular had been with us since our creation. We’re proud to be associated with him and his endeavours with Ireland Lacrosse.”
