Men’s Senior National Team Coaches for EC2016 Announced

Ireland Lacrosse, the national governing body for the sport of lacrosse in Ireland, is pleased to announce the appointment of its coaching staff for the Men’s Senior National Team which will participate in the 2016 European Championships.

Christian Arnold has been named as Head Coach for the team.  Christian is currently the Head Coach at Kingwood High School in Kingwood, Texas, and he was previously Head Coach of the Austrian National Team from 2009-2015.  Prior to that, Christian was previously Head Coach of the Irish national team at the 2009 Celtic Cup and Assistant Coach of the team at the 2008 European Championships.  He coached the Irish development team (Éire) at the festival tournament at the 2012 European Championships and was Head Coach of the University College Dublin team from 2007-2009.

Joining Christian as Assistant Coaches are Brendan Gorman (current Head Coach at Babson College in Massachusetts and former Assistant Coach at the Rochester Institute of Technology), Matt Curran (current Head Coach at Robinson Secondary School in Virginia), Rich Carter (current Associate Head Coach at American Heritage School in Florida) and Jeremy Platt (current Head Coach at The Kinkaid School in Texas).

Ireland Lacrosse National Teams Director John Cavanaugh says, “Ireland Lacrosse welcomes Chris back to the National Team coaching ranks. We are fortunate to have such an experienced international coach leading our team into our 5th European Championships. The rest of the coaching staf are experienced and successful coaches who together create a comprehensive staff that will bring out the best in our players.”

Tryouts for the Irish Men’s Senior National Team which will participate in the 2016 European Championships will take place from 23-25 October on campus at University College Dublin.  Registration takes place on Friday evening, 23 October, from 7-8pm in the lobby of the UCD Sports Centre – further details, including the online player registration form – are available at Irish Men’s National Team Tryouts. The European Championships tournament itself will take place from 25 July to 7 August in Gödöllő, Hungary.  The Irish team will head into this tournament after a silver medal performance in the previous event in 2012.
