Remarkable attendance as the 2010-11 season of the Irish Lacrosse League launches in Dangan
This past weekend marked a huge step in lacrosse in Ireland, with over 100 players stepping out for the opening gameday of the ILL at NUI Galway’s sports grounds in Dangan. It is truly incredible to see the growth of the sport with these players representing all 7 member clubs of Ireland Lacrosse.
The men’s league got off to an impressive start with Dublin Lacrosse storming to the top of the table with two double-digit victories over Galway Lacrosse & Trinity/QUB Lacrosse. Reigning ILL champions, UCD, and the Dublin Bay Prawns gave us the game of the day with the Prawns coming back from a 5-2 deficit to draw level with a last second goal by John O’Connor. Impressive performances came from Sean Gibson (Dublin Lacrosse; leading the stats with 7 goals and 5 assists), James Agar (Trinity; stellar performance playing in goal for the first time) and Ger Harris (UCD; making an impact in all positions playing attack, midfield and close defence).
The women’s lacrosse season launched with UCD taking on Trinity Lacrosse, with some Dublin, Queens and Cork imports joining the Trinity team. Trinity impressed with a 13-5 victory, with Charlie Falconer (5 goals) and Eleni Megoran (3 goals) leading the way on the scoresheet. UCD must be commended for their recruitment, bringing a roster of 25 girls down to the opening gameday.
Next up will be gameday #2, hosted in Cork on Saturday, November 13th 2010.

You can email the captains of the Dublin Teams at: Sean Gibson – Sgibson@irelandlacrosse.ie (Dublin Lacrosse Team) or Kevin Quinn dbprawnslax@gmail.com.
Both teams would be looking for players and train at the same venue.
