Ireland Teams Seek Glory in European Championships

Ireland Lacrosse Men’s and Women’s teams all set for Amsterdam 2012

Dublin, Wednesday 13th June, 2012: The Irish men’s and women’s national Lacrosse teams are currently gearing up to compete in the 2012 European Lacrosse Championships in
Amsterdam next week where they will compete along with 17 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams from across Europe.

The Irish men’s Lacrosse team retained their Top 10 world ranking with a ninth place finish in the 2010 World Championships in Manchester and will now compete in the Top Division
at the European Championships.

Their opening game will be against reigning champions, England, on June 21st, followed by group games against The Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Sweden. Games between
Ireland and these teams have been tight over the past few years (including a heart-breaking11-10 loss to The Netherlands in 2008), so the men will be eager for a medal winning finish
over the next few weeks.

The women’s team will be hoping to better their fourth place position at the previous European Championships in 2008 and a strong fifth place standing in their first World Cup
appearance in 2009. They are coming into the tournament after a rigorous warm-up schedule including the Home Internationals Tournament in April, an annual international women’s
tournament between neighbouring nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The Irish women’s Lacrosse team launch their campaign against England on June 23rd, in the Yellow
group along with Austria, Germany, Switzerland and host nation Netherlands.
