24 January 2016, Dublin, Ireland – Ireland Lacrosse is pleased to announce the re-appointment of the Women’s Senior National Team coaching staff, which will next participate in the 2017 World Cup.
The Executive Board of Ireland Lacrosse voted unanimously to re-sign the Women’s National Team coaching staff, consisting of Head Coach Sarah Walsh, and Assistant Coaches Hilary Bowen, Catherine Conway & Caroline Helmer. This group of coaches guided the National Team to 5th place in the 2015 European Championships. The Women’s National Team will participate in the 2017 FIL Rathbones World Championships (12-22 July 2017) to be held in Surrey, England. Click here for the official tournament website.
Director of National Teams John Cavanaugh said, “Sarah, Hilary, Caroline and Catherine did an outstanding job coaching our women at the 2015 European Championships. Ireland Lacrosse if fortunate to have such an excellent and experienced coaching staff back for the 2017 World Cup.”
Head Coach Sarah Walsh said, “On behalf of the entire staff, it is such an honor to continue in our roles on the coaching staff of the Women’s National team. In placing 5th in the 2015 European Championships, we saw tremendous improvements from the team, and we also saw what needs work to further our success. I am thrilled that we will remain together as a unit, to continue that work with the National team. Furthermore, we have committed to leading the development of our domestic players, which is the foundation of any successful national program. We are so excited about the future of this program, on all levels!”
Trials for the 2017 Senior Women’s National team will be held 28-30 October 2016 in Dublin, Ireland. Details for the selection camp are forthcoming.
