Complete Team Win for Women’s National Team; Advance to Quarterfinals

The Irish Women’s National team rolled to a 19-3 victory over Belgium in the last game of pool play at the 2015 European Lacrosse Championship. With that win, the Irish finish 2nd in the Green Pool (2-1) and advance to play England in the quarterfinals.

Twelve different players tallied points for the green, white, and orange, while three players netted their first international goals in the contest. Olivia Jackson scored 3 goals. Rachel Ward also scored 3 goals, and added 2 assists. Caroline Peters continued her scoring streak with 3 goals and an assist. Nadine Fadel tallied her first international goal, and then contributed 2 more, brining her total to 3. Defender Pamela Smithwick got in the action, and notched 2 goals. Orla McCourt, Tori Devine, Nonie Andersen, Anna Bishcoff and Evanna Murphy all added a goal each. Bishcoff’s and Murphy’s goals were their first international goals as well. Claire Halliday and Robyn Morris kept the scoring coming; adding 4 and 2 assists respectively.

The Green Machine has five players in the Top 50 point scorers for the tournament, at the end of pool play: 12th Caroline Peters, 32nd Rachel Ward, 39th Robyn Morris, 45th Nonie Andersen and 46th Tori Devine.

Defensively, the Green Machine caused 9 turnovers, and scooped up 12 ground balls. Devin O’Leary led the charge in both categories. Goalkeeper Ashley DeFlumere continued to play steady in the net, turning away 7 of 10 total shots faced.   The midfield made the job of the defense easier, winning 14 of 22 draws. Ireland controlled over 70% of possession time.
