The Irish Women’s National Team was stymied by defending champions England in the quarterfinals of the 2015 European Lacrosse Championships, 23-4. They will face Latvia on 13 Thursday, at 12:00 Nymburk local time.
The Irish came out hot at the start, and battled throughout. At the halftime break, the score was 9-4 England. Four different Irish players tallied the four goals: Robyn Morris, Caroline Peters, Rachel Ward, and Nonie Andersen. However, the Green Machine could not match the depth of the English side in the second half. There were moments of brilliance; multiple caused turnovers, crucial draw controls, and some beautiful transitional movement. But the Irish were unable to connect the dots, and remained scoreless in the second. England continued to push transition, and scored their final goal with :01 remaining in regulation time. Two impact players in the game were goalie Ashley DeFlumere, with 9 saves, and Breada Farrell with 4 draw controls and 4 caused turnovers.
The Irish are not done with their tournament play. The game against Latvia is in the 5th place flight. If the Irish win, they will face the winner of Czech Republic vs. Germany on 15 Saturday at 9:00 Nymburk local time. Click here for the free live stream or follow our live updates on Twitter.
