Huge congratulations to the Ireland Women’s U21 National Team which finished in a fantastic 5th place at the 2023 ELF Women’s U21 European Lacrosse Championship, which took in Prague, Czech Republic from 2-9 July 2023!
The team defeated Israel (17-7), Germany (10-7) and Scotland (19-12) in pool play, and were then narrowly beaten by Sweden (14-13) in the Quarter-Final. The team then rallied back to beat Italy (18-7) and then Scotland again (16-8) to secure 5th place.
The Irish offense was led by Ava Brosnan with 25 points (21G, 4A), Caroline Torney with 20 points (19G, 1A) and Alyssa Katie Gore Chung with 20 points (13G, 7A). All three finished in the top 10 for points in the tournament. Naoise Howley was the mainstay in goal throughout the tournament, finishing with a 45% save percentage. Riley Peterson stepped in goal briefly for one game and recorded 5 saves while conceding 3 goals.
England beat the hosts Czech Republic 9-4 in the final of the tournament, with Sweden securing the bronze medal with an 11-9 defeat of Wales.
Next up for the under-age women’s field team will be the 2024 U20 World Championship, taking place from 15-25 August 2024 in Hong Kong, China.
